FOLIO Tutorial and Hack-a-thon Voting for Code4Lib

10 Nov '16

The Code4Lib community is voting on preconferences for the meeting in Los Angeles in March 2017. Code4Lib received 37 proposals for next year’s meeting, and due to limited space they won’t be able to offer all of them.

If you are in the Code4Lib community, take a look at the proposals and register your vote. Voting will remain open from now until November 22nd November 28th, 5 PM Pacific Time / 8 PM Eastern Time.

The FOLIO-specific proposals are:

FOLIO for Developers: Getting your own FOLIO instance running (morning)

FOLIO is a library services platform – infrastructure that allows cooperating library apps to share data. This workshop is a hands-on introduction to FOLIO for developers of library apps. In this tutorial you will work with your own Vagrant image through a series of exercises designed to demonstrate how to install an app on the platform and use the data sources and design elements the platform provides.

REQUIREMENTS: Laptop (4GB) with Vagrant installed.

FOLIO Hack-a-thon (afternoon)

Have an idea for an app? Want to work with FOLIO developers and others in the community on the FOLIO platform to make it happen. Come to this half-day hack-a-thon! Ideas for new developers will be posted in the project Jira, or bring your own concepts and work with others to make them reality.

REQUIREMENTS: Laptop (4GB) with Vagrant installed. Attending the FOLIO Tutorial is recommended, but not required.

Thanks to everyone who voted for these FOLIO preconferences for Code4Lib. I’ve heard back from the preconference organizers that both were accepted:

I am pleased to inform you that your workshops, titled “FOLIO for Developers” and “FOLIO Hack-a-thon” have been accepted for presentation at the Code4Lib 2017 Pre-conference in Los Angeles, California, on Monday, March 6th 2017. Your workshops are scheduled for the AM and PM Sessions, which are going to be held from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm.

If you are interested in helping to plan and perform the tutorial and the hack-a-thon, please get in touch with me (or join the #c4l14-preconference channel on FOLIO’s Slack).

Also, if you haven’t done so already, please vote for the FOLIO session during the main Code4Lib meeting.
